In our recent review of the Sapphire Radeon 5450, we found it to be a great little card, perhaps perfect for an HTPC build. Passive heatsink, low temperature, low power, and a low price tag offered many reasons for a compelling budget product. In keeping with ATI's 5000 series juggernaut releases, Sapphire has announced the Radeon 5570 1GB DDR3, a step up from its little sibling the 5450.
The Sapphire Radeon 5570 is a very small, low-power budget graphics card, marketed in the $80 range to consumers who are interested in some light gaming, and indeed the card is more capable than the lowly 5450 in terms of gaming performance. At this price range, the Nvidia GeForce GT 240 is the 5570's closest competitor, and both features GDD3 while the 5570 does offer DX11. ATI may be banking on this being a selling point, but we know that DX11 is extremely demanding on graphics cards, and the 5570 likely isn't up to task on that point.
Question is: Can the 5570 continue with ATI's winning ways, or can the humble Nvidia GT 240 prove to be a bit too much as competition? Let's take a look at the Sapphire Radeon 5570 1GB and see how it fares.
